Worrick Robinson, the attorney for a former football player convicted of the June 2013 rape at Vanderbilt University, issued a statement after his client appeared in an hour-long episode of "Dr. Phil" Monday.

Robinson said Cory Batey, 21, was not paid for his interview with the daytime television host.

Convicted rapist Cory Batey, right, talked with Dr. Phil from the Davidson County Criminal Justice Center in downtown Nashville.

The attorney also said he was disappointed in the tone of the interview.

Robinson previously said he granted the interview with Dr. Phil, and not other news programs, because the tone of Dr. Phil's show was healing in nature, not investigative.

Here is Robinson's statement:

"After watching the hour long special produced by Dr. Phil and his staff I am completely disappointed.

In agreeing to do the sit-down interview I was promised the focus would be on awareness and advocacy. Dr. Phil failed to deliver that.

I granted the exclusive to Dr. Phil hoping to spotlight underage drinking, campus culture, peer pressure and the effects it can have on any high school or college student. I want to stress Cory did not profit from this interview. No one was paid.

I do feel the tragedies of June 23 (2013) can and will impact future students and teens, male and female. I just regret that opportunity to effect change was missed today."
