George Jones' former Franklin home sold for $1.98M

• Purchase by Dickson couple completes sale of country music legend's Country Gold Estate off Highway 96.

Late country music star George Jones' widow has sold the couple's former Franklin home and the nearly 25 acres it sits on for $1.98 million.

Nancy Jones sold the property at 4025 Nestledown Drive to Nathan B. and Patricia A. Overton. "They and members of their extended family plan on living there," said John O. Belcher, a Nashville attorney for the Dickson couple.

The 9,651-square-foot home has four bedrooms, seven full and one half bathrooms, a seven-car garage and a swimming pool. Realtor Laura Baugh of Worth Properties listed the gated property, which also includes two barns, a RV tour bus garage, an office, a guest house and a large pond.

The transaction completes sale of Jones' Country Gold Estate at the Nestledown Farms subdivision off Highway 96.

In a separate sale Bailey & Ivey Realtors handled in 2013, Raeni Rinker-Dumford paid $2.4 million for 54 acres of the luxury estate. Rinker-Dumford and her husband are building a home and a large horse-riding arena on that property.

George Jones, who was nicknamed "The Possum," died at age 81 in 2013. Earlier this year, his widow opened the George Jones Museum in downtown Nashville.

The Overtons have made headlines for their lawsuit as timeshare buyers against Orlando-based Westgate Resorts, which they accused of questionable practices in sales tactics.

Recently, Tennessee's Supreme Court declined to take up Westgate Resorts' appeal of the state's Court of Appeals affirmation with a slight modification of a trial court's favorable ruling in favor of the Overtons.
