Metro has two parcels next to Casa Azafran Community Center on Nolensville Pike under contract with plans to develop a public park.

The city will pay $600,000 for the land. Nonprofit organization Conexion Americas, which runs Casa Azafran, would raise and donate $500,000 to Metro Parks, which would be in charge of turning that property into park space.

On Tuesday, Metro Council approved a resolution authorizing the transaction, including the donation and partnership with Conexion Americas.

The park would be available to the community center's preschool that operates in partnership with Metro Schools and to the neighborhood.

Renata Soto, executive director of Conexion Americas, said Casa Azafran has become a hub for social services, arts and culture in South Nashville, making it an ideal location for a public park that would connect visitors and neighbors with each other and nature, public art and physical activity.

"This public-private partnership between Metro and Conexión Américas also presents a timely opportunity to spark community engagement for a new vision for the entire corridor," she said.

Sipan O. Barwari and Bedryie Mahmut are owners of the 0.8 acres Metro has under contract. A car repair shop sits on the lot at 2187 Nolensville Pike, and the other lot behind it at 2138 Canady Ave. is vacant.
