Franklin spa owner glows inside and out

Tucked behind the DAmico Fine Art Studio at 112 East Fowlkes St. in downtown Franklin is the charming and beautiful Pinup Skin Spa and Boutique, owned by the equally charming and beautiful Tabatha Hall.

I was introduced to Hall, a fellow Grassland-area single mom, by one of her most complimentary customers, Katherine Faulman, who raves about Hall’s work as an aesthetician and her chutzpah as an entrepreneur.

The East Tennessee native is making a name for herself in Franklin as the go-to girl for all things glamour. And at the heart of every business decision she makes is her 8-year-old daughter, Brooke.

“I want to provide for Brooke and be an example to her that she can do anything she wants to do in life,” Hall said.

As a small-business owner, Hall is able to set her own schedule around Brooke’s needs and also bring her daughter to work with her whenever necessary. “A lot of times she’s right here with me, helping me unpack and organize product or hanging out,” she said.

Hall’s grit, tenacity and focus on making a great life for her daughter remind me of the inspiring story of J.K. Rowling, author of the immensely successful “Harry Potter” series.

Rowling wrote her first novel as a single mother working part-time jobs and living on public assistance. She has since become the United Kingdom’s highest-selling author and one of the wealthiest women in the world.

Rowling once wrote that her proudest moment was when her daughter, Jessica, shared her feelings about those early years of struggle. “I never knew we were poor. I just remember being happy,” Jessica told her mother.

The greatest thing about happiness is that happiness isn’t a thing at all! Happiness simply is a state of being. Tabatha Hall is positively in a state of being happy, and it shows. Sure, there’s a glow that can be obtained from chemical peels and procedures, but the glow Hall wears radiates from within. Stop by her spa and you’ll see it, too.
