Goodlettsville Middle PE teacher indicted on rape charges

A former teacher at Goodlettsville Middle School has been indicted and accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student.

Officials said that 32-year-old Shelley Brown, who also used the surname Lott, surrendered at police headquarters Tuesday. She is accused of two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure.

Brown was a physical education teacher at the middle school. Police allege she had sex with the teen boy — who was one of her students — at least twice during the summer of 2014.

An anonymous tip made to the Tennessee Department of Children's Services led to Metro police sex crimes detectives opening an investigation in October.

Police said Brown was placed on administrative leave and then suspended without pay in December. She is in jail on a $75,000 bond.
