Nashville named top weekend destination

Somehow, the folks at Thrillist forgot to mention these things when talking about why Nashville is so great for a weekender.

I am absolutely breathless to tell you about a list.

This is not just any list, mind you, but a list from a magical place called Thrillist, where, I guess, one finds the most thrilling lists.

They looked at every city in the country (that has more than 90,000 people), and ranked the "25 Best US Cities to Spend a Weekend," based on each locale's relative merits as a great place for, you know, a weekender.

Nashville, my friends, is number one.

It's hard to use measured tones when you see yourself on the top of a list. We feel so validated I can't breathe. Someone thinks we're pretty.

The lists aren't for us, of course. We already know about our pro sports, honky tonks and record stores/music venues. We wet whistles at craft breweries and distilleries and fill our bellies with hot chicken and Goo Goos, but not at the same time as Thrillist seems to imply. That would be gross.

In other words, Thrillist says people are not just coming for music and windbreakers, but a whole lot of other stuff, and especially for food.

Do you have any idea what this is going to do for us? Lists are like rabbits. They breed other lists, and before you know it we will be on the top of every list on everydadgum website, travel magazine and content aggregator that happens to like lists.

Forbes highlights Nashville as a rising travel destination

They will discover things like "Bushwackers at Edley's," to which I say, sorry Pensacola. Not only are you too small to be on this list, but Thrillist says we stole your signature drink.

Thankfully, Thrillist forgot to mention peddle taverns, bachelorette parties, traffic and (gasp) the fact that you now need reservations thanks to all these people, and lists.

While New York took the 9th spot on the list (really?) and New Orleans comes in right behind us at number two (hmmm?), we also managed to beat Cleveland, Kansas City and Sioux Falls. Now that's what I call bragging rights.
