Game 1 Vanderbilt vs. Illinois: Inning-by-inning updates in the first game of the NCAA baseball Super Regional in Champaign, Ill.

Tennessean columnist Dave Ammenheuser's inning-by-inning updates of Saturday's Vanderbilt 13-0 win over Illinois in the first game of the best-of-three Super Regional.

Game 2 is scheduled Sunday at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU. The game was moved from 8 p.m. because of pending storms in the Champaign on Sunday night.

FIRST INNING

COMMODORES LEAD 3-0

Vanderbilt first:

Illinois starter Kein Duchene struck out Ro Coleman before getting into trouble. Rhett Wiseman and Dansby Swanson singled, then Zander Wiel was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Freshman Will Toffey then worked the count full before working a walk to score Wiseman for a 1-0 Vanderbilt lead. Duchene had walked just 15 batters the entire season.

Bryan Reynolds followed with a RBI single, scoring Swanson for a 2-0 Vanderbilt lead. Jeren Kendall then grounded out to second, scoring Ziel for a 3-0 lead. It was Kendall's 35th RBI of the season. Karl Ellison then flied out to left for the final out.

Illinois first: With Vanderbilt ace Carson Fulmer on the mound, Illinois' Adam Walton singled up the middle, then Ryan Nagle singled to right. With runners on first and third, Reid Roper struck out.

Jason Goldstein then grounded into an inning-ending double play.

SECOND INNING

VANDY HOLDS 3-0 EDGE

Vanderbilt:

After Tyler Campbell flied out to center, Ro Coleman singled to left. Rhett Wiseman struck out and Dansby Swanson flied out to center.

Illinois: After Casey Fletcher walked, Carson Fulmer retired the next three Illini batters.

THIRD INNING

COMMODORES EXTEND LEAD

Vanderbilt: After Wiel walked, Duchene walked Toffey for the second time in the game. Bryan Reynolds then reached on a an error by third baseman, pushing Wiel to third base. Duchene then balked, allowing Wiel to score and Reynolds to move to second base. Kendall was then hit by the pitch.

The four runs are the most Duchene has allowed this season.

\Duchene then hit Kendall with a pitch. Ellison then flied out to right field, advancing Reynolds to third base. Campbell was then hit wiht the pitch to load the bases. It's the third Commodore to get hit by a pitch in the game.

Coleman then grounded out to end the inning.

Illinois: With two outs, Nagle singled to center and Reid Roper walked. With runners on first and second base, Goldstein flied out to right to end the inning.

FOURTH INNING

VANDY REMAINS AHEAD 4-0

Vanderbilt: Dansby Swanson singled with one out, but was wiped out when Ziel grounded into a double play.

Illinois: Casey Fletcher opened the inning with a single to center field, but Fulmer retired the next three batters. The last two were strikeouts.

FIFTH INNING

VANDY PUSHES LEAD TO 8-0

Vanderbilt: The Commodores extended their lead in a crazy inning which saw them chase Illinois ace Duchene. Toffey walked, Reynolds singled, then Kendall reached base on a bunt single. On the play, Duchene picked up the bunt and fired it past first base. Toffey scored, moving Reynolds to third and Kendall to second. At that point Duchene came out of the game.

Ellison grounded out, scoring Reynolds for a 6-0 lead. Then Tyler Campbell hit a grounder to pitcher Cody Sedlock. He caught Kendall to far off third base, but in the rundown between home and third, Illinois catcher Goldstein was called for interference, allowing Kendall to score. One out later, Wiseman's single scored Campbell for a 8-0 Vanderbilt lead.

Vanderbilt: The Commodores extended their lead in a crazy inning which saw them chase Illinois ace Duchene. Toffey walked, Reynolds singled, then Kendall reached base on a bunt single. On the play, Duchene picked up the bunt and fired it past first base. Toffey scored, moving Reynolds to third and Kendall to second. At that point Duchene came out of the game.

Illinois: The Illini only managed a walk off Fulmer in the fifth. He struck out two.

SIXTH INNING

VANDY STILL UP 8-0

Vanderbilt:

The Commodores were retired in order.

Illinois: Fulmer retired the Illini in order.

SEVENTH INNING

CAMPBELL HOMER PUSHES LEAD TO 9-0

Vanderbilt:

Tyler Campbell's solo home run, his second of the season, pushes the lead to 9-0. No other Vandy batter reached base in the inning.

Illinois: The Illini chased Fulmer in the seventh. The senior walked David Kerian, induced Will Krug into a pop out, then walked Ryne Roper. With one out, Colin Snider replaced him.

Snider then induced Walton into an inning-ending double play.

EIGHTH INNING

COMMODORES HOLD 9-0 EDGE

Vanderbilt:

Rhett Wiseman had his third hit of the game, but the Commodores did not threaten to score in the inning.

Illinois: Ryan Johnson entered the game on the mound for the Commodores and retired the Illini in order.

NINTH INNING

Vanderbilt wins 13-0

Vanderbilt:

Jeren Kendall hit a two-run homer in the inning. It was his seventh home run of the season, his third in the postseason, to push the lead to 11-0. Then, Kyle Smith smacked a two-run double to increase the lead to 13-0. Smith snapped a 0-for-46 slump with the hit. It was his first hit since Feb. 23, 2014.

Illinois: Johnson finished the game, allowing a single.
