  • Baker Storey McDonald to start building 21,825-square-foot shopping center in the spring.

ALDI is the apparent tenant for a 17,825-square-foot grocery store building that Baker Storey McDonald Properties Inc. plans to build in Bellevue, according to someone familiar with the matter.

The location near Highway 70 and Old Hickory Boulevard would be the German discount grocery store chain’s fifth Nashville store, with nearly 20 in Middle Tennessee, including in Clarksville, Dickson and Hendersonville.

The new ALDI store would sit next to an existing shopping center anchored by grocery chain Kroger, which along with Publix are players in the Bellevue market. A Sprouts Farmers Market is planned as part of the redevelopment of the former Bellevue Center mall.

"There's a lot of demand out there," said Lizz Kabat, a principal in locally based commercial real estate firm Kabat Real Estate Solutions. "It’s a great corner, and I think that’s one of the best(-performing) Krogers in the entire market."

Troy Marshall, Mt. Juliet division vice president for ALDI, said it is too early to confirm any information regarding a possible Bellevue store.

In addition to the 17,825-square-foot grocery store building, the new shopping center Baker Storey McDonald plans at 7037 Highway 70 S. will include a 4,000-square-foot building and 109 parking spaces.

David Baker, a principal in retail-focused real estate firm Baker Storey McDonald, said there are no tenants committed to the 4,000-square-foot building. He declined to comment on ALDI.

Construction should start in the spring on the overall 21,825-square-foot shopping center. It would sit across the street from the Belle Forest Shopping Center, which Baker Storey McDonald renovated three years ago with tenants including Five Guys Burgers and Fries and RED Spirits & Wine.
