All of Tennessee's county clerks are ready to or are already issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, according to county staffers and gay marriage advocates.

Though all 95 counties in the Volunteer State are reportedly following the Friday ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning bans on same-sex marriage, some county clerks are refusing to perform those marriages.

Clerks are legally allowed to refuse to perform the marriages, but must issue the licenses.

Chris Sanders, executive director of the Tennessee Equality Project, said not all counties have issued a same-sex marriage license, but clerks in all except Lake County have said they will do so if asked. Tennessee Equality Project is an organization that advocates for LGBT issues.

A woman in the Lake County Clerk's Office, who would not identify herself to The Tennessean and said the county clerk was gone Tuesday, said the office would issue the licenses.
