  • MTA bus crash on Charlotte Avenue.

The driver killed Wednesday morning when his 2004 Toyota Solara collided with an MTA bus on Charlotte Avenue at 19th Avenue North has been identified.

The driver of the Toyota, William B. Forsythe, 30, of Lloyd Avenue, was traveling eastbound on Charlotte and crossed over into the westbound lane where the bus was traveling, Metro Nashville Police Department Sgt. Bob Sheffield said.

The speed of both vehicles was estimated to be about 40 miles per hour.

Forsythe was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Sheffield said.

The bus driver, Paul Woodhouse, 61, of Nashville, was not injured. There were five passengers in the bus and one was treated for non life-threatening injuries, Sheffield said.

Police on the scene were able to look at some video from the bus.

"It clearly shows the driver of the passenger vehicle crossed all lanes of traffic," Sheffield said. "It appeared, just from personal experience, the driver probably fell asleep and it was pretty much a head-on collision with the MTA bus."

The investigation is continuing. There was no evidence at the scene of alcohol or drug involvement.
