Blake Shelton eschewed rhinestones and wore green and white flannel as he took the big stage at LP Field.

"I like doin' what she likes," he sang, beginning his set as cameras flashed and fans roared.

"Man, thank you all so much for coming out tonight and staying so late," he said. "I always forget, man, that these are the world's biggest country music freaks out here."

Shelton then brought out Gwen Sebastian for "My Eyes" before moving into "Sure Be Cool If You Did."

"Hey, uh, I've been thinking about this for a long time," Shelton said. "What song should I come out here and do? This is my favorite crowd to play for all year long. I thought, what I really should do is test these people. I want to go way back."

With that, Shelton sang his first hit, "Austin," from 2001.

"Thank y'all for making that my first No. 1 song," he said.

Shelton then offered up the crowd-pleasing "Boys 'Round Here," with PG-13 language that will surely by excised when the CMA Music Festival special runs on ABC in August.

Blake Shelton performs at CMA Fest at LP Field Friday June 6, 2014, in Nashville, TN.
