Springfield Police search for male streaker in pink bra

Springfield Police are looking for a man they say streaked through the city Tuesday morning wearing nothing but a pink bra.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Central Avenue and Fifth Avenue in reference to the streaker, described only as a black man, at about 9:45 a.m., according to Springfield Police Lt. William Watkins.

“They lost him around Carl’s Place near Westgate Drive,” Watkins said. “He was just running down the street.”

At one point, the suspect ran inside the Dollar General Store at 1106 Central Avenue West, witnesses told police. He paused briefly but ran past the BP Station at Fifth Avenue and Central Avenue, they added.

A worker at the Dollar General Store told The Times by telephone Tuesday afternoon that she was unable to speak publicly about the incident at this time. She said corporate officials were made aware of the incident and would have to give their permission before any information could be released to the media.

Watkins said Springfield Police did not have any prior reports regarding the suspect. He added that the city had not seen any streaking incidents in recent years.

“It used to happen a lot around here when that song “The Streak” came out,” Watkins said.

“The Streak” was released by Ray Stevens in March of 1974.

Watkins said investigators are in the process of trying to obtain surveillance video of the suspect from the Dollar General Store.
