New rape trial dates set for ex-Vols Williams, Johnson
KNOXVILLE — New trial dates have been set for former Tennessee linebacker A.J. Johnson and cornerback Michael Williams, who are facing aggravated rape charges.
Williams' trial has been moved to June 27, the date that Johnson had been scheduled to go on trial. Johnson's trial was moved to July 18.
Each has been charged with two counts of aggravated rape. Knoxville police say the incident occurred Nov. 16.
Their trial dates have been moved multiple times while defense lawyers attempt to obtain social media communications related to the case.
Earlier this month, Knox County Criminal Court Judge Bob McGee granted the state's motion to quash subpoenas issued to witnesses, including the woman who says the men raped her. McGee said defense lawyers still can try obtaining those communications from service providers.
