Nashville-area nonprofits need volunteers to help with events this holiday season. Here are five upcoming opportunities:

Holiday food box packaging and delivery

Organization: NeedLink Nashville

Description: Help package and assemble 1,000 food boxes to low-income families and seniors.

Shifts: Assemble: 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 1-3 p.m. Dec. 8, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Dec. 9. Delivery: 10 a.m.-noon, noon-2 p.m. Dec. 9

Rudolph Red Nose Run

Organization: NeedLink Nashville

Description: Set up the race, register runners, help at water stops and post-race activities, and clean up.

Shifts: 7-10 a.m. setup, 8:30-11:30 a.m. race activities, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. cleanup Dec. 19

BELL Garden

Organization: Bellevue Edible Learning Lab Inc.

Description: Volunteers of all ages will maintain the garden in a covered greenhouse. Proper attire and water bottles are encouraged.

Shifts: 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 28, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12

Christmas at St. Luke's

Organization: St. Luke's Community House

Description: St. Luke's has several holiday volunteer opportunities, including helping with holiday bingo for seniors; loading, wrapping and delivering gifts in the Christmas House; and assisting seniors on a trip to Wal-Mart.

Shifts: Gift drop-off: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 7-11. Wal-Mart senior assist: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 10. Christmas House setup: 8:30 a.m.-noon, noon-3 p.m. Dec. 12. Christmas bingo: 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 17

Holiday at Cheekwood

Organization: Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Museum of Art

Description: Cheekwood needs volunteers to shuttle guests to their vehicles, direct and help guests experience the "Holiday LIGHTS" exhibit as hosts, and assist in family activities.

Shifts: Shuttle driving and host: 5-8 p.m., 7:30-10 p.m. daily from Nov. 27 through Jan. 3 except Dec. 25. Activity volunteer: 9-11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 28 through Dec. 20
