Police arrested a convicted sex offender Monday after officers say they saw him in the passenger seat of an ice cream truck in East Nashville.

Larry Lawrence Frierson registered as a violent sex offender in 2006 after he was convicted of two counts of attempted aggravated sexual battery of a 4-year-old boy. Officers monitoring Frierson earlier this month saw him in a green and blue van selling ice cream, according to his arrest warrant.

Officers tracked the van as it traveled down Cleveland Street, Stockell Street, Joseph Avenue, Hancock Street and North Second Street. At one point, they said, children approached the van.

Frierson is also accused of living on Cleveland Street without notifying the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The state’s sex offender registry lists him as homeless.

Police arrested Frierson Monday morning and charged him with pursuing illegal employment for a convicted sex offender and with violating the sex offender registry for a second time. He remained in jail Tuesday morning on a $15,000 bond.
