Metro corrects information on library water line break

Metro Water Services officials said they misidentified - again - the company that caused a water line break at the main branch of Nashville's library downtown on Friday.

Department spokeswoman Sonia Allman said in an email Monday morning: "After further investigation into the TN One Call tickets and Public Works road closure requests, it has been confirmed that the break last Friday at the library was caused by a subcontractor, ITG Communications. However, ITG was working for Access Fiber Group in this location, not AT&T."

She said Access Fiber Group was installing fiber for Crown Castle. The Tennessean has reached out for Crown Castle for comment, but did not immediately hear back.

Allman at first said the contractor was working for Google Fiber, then Friday said it was AT&T Fiber. AT&T officials responded saying they were not aware of any water lines being hit by contractors for their company.

The break was in a water service line, and repairs to the 10-inch line were completed Friday.

Andrea Fanta, a spokeswoman for the library, said the break in the pipe was discovered before the library opened Friday. It closed the facility for the day, and the library reopened Saturday. Whether any library collections were damaged was unknown Friday, she said.
