The Smith brothers will play together again.

Oakland senior Josh Smith on Tuesday night committed to Vanderbilt, where he will join his older brother, Emmanuel, who will be a freshman safety for the Commodores in the fall.

The younger Smith made his announcement on ESPNU during "The Opening," an elite Nike camp held at the company's headquarters in Oregon. The event includes the top 150 prospects in the country. Josh Smith is ranked No. 229 in the country by ESPN.

Smith told ESPN after his commitment that the Vanderbilt coaching staff has told him he will be able to compete for playing time at both outside and inside linebacker.

"They are (a) very transparent coaching staff," Smith told ESPN. "They get right to the point. They are very passionate about the game of football and academics."

Smith, at 6-foot-3 and 221-pounds, is the 11th-best inside linebacker in the country, according to 247sports.com. He is the ninth-best college prospect in the state, according to the recruiting website.

Oakland’s Josh Smith takes down Siegel quarterback Dakota Crane during a game last season. Smith recorded 81 tackles and forced a pair of fumbles as a junior.

Smith chose Vanderbilt over Kentucky, Ole Miss, Penn State and Purdue. The four-star college prospect also had offers from Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Virginia and others.

Smith is the third Oakland senior to commit to an SEC school for the Class of 2015 and the fourth from Murfreesboro.

Teammates Jack Jones, an offensive lineman, and tight end Kyle Oliver each committed to Tennessee along with Blackman quarterback Jauan Jennings.

Smith recorded 81 tackles and forced a pair of fumbles as a junior. He said last month he plans to major in biomechanical engineering.
