Break out the candles, marigolds and water because the Hispanic community is inviting Middle Tennessee to its first Day of the Dead art crawl on Saturday.

Artists and community members will honor the Mexican and Central American holiday — traditionally held Nov. 1-2 — with a showcase of altars at nine locations along Nolensville Pike from 4 to 6 p.m. Afterward, the community is invited to a celebration with live music and art activities for children at Coleman Park Community Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

“Nashville is fortunate to have a 15-year history of celebrating the holiday at Cheekwood, and we look forward to adding to that energy in our own backyard,” said Bobbilyn Negrón, president of Freedom Arts, the nonprofit hosting the event, in a news release. “By holding the community event a week earlier, we aim to further lift up the holiday and encourage participants to join the Cheekwood festivities.”
