Not far from the honky-tonks of Lower Broadway, live jazz music will now ring out several nights a week in downtown Nashville.

Nashville restaurant and lounge The Cave (600 9th Ave. S.) is now hosting "Jazz in the Gulch," a series of weekly jazz concerts taking place Sundays-Wednesdays. The series is spearheaded by Jim Williamson, director of the Nashville Jazz Orchestra.

Williamson says the days of the week will stick to specific musical themes. Sundays feature "straight-ahead" or acoustic jazz groups. Mondays belong to salsa or other Latin styles. Big bands will pack into the venue on Tuesdays, and Wednesdays will be dedicated to funk and fusion jazz artists.

Upcoming concerts include the Nashville Jazz Orchestra with Christina Watson (September 16), Los Pollos Hermanos New Salsa (September 22) and The Pat Coil Sextet (September 28). To learn more, visit The Cave at www.facebook.com/thecavenashville.
