Jaire George, son of former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George, has committed to play football at Vanderbilt just three days before National Signing Day.

"Isn't it funny? My son is going to play in Nashville," Eddie said on Sunday afternoon.

Jaire, a 6-foot-2, 226-pounder, has played multiple positions for DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md., but he will be at running back at Vanderbilt, according his father.

As a senior, he was a Washington Area Catholic All-Conference first-team selection at linebacker. A broken thumb prevented him from carrying the football at running back, as he did as a junior. He is rated a two-star prospect by 247 Sports.

"(Vanderbilt coaches) saw five clips on him running the ball, and that's all it took," said Eddie, a former Heisman Trophy winner at Ohio State and nine-year NFL veteran. "When a coach like Derek Mason – who has coached in the NFL and at Stanford – is able to see the ability and upside in a player like that, it just kind of casts all this five-star and two-star ratings nonsense by the wayside."

Jaire could not be reached for comment.

Eddie George played eight seasons for the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans organization and rushed for 10,441 yards in his career. It ended after one season with the Dallas Cowboys in 2004 when Jaire was in elementary school.

Jaire lives with his mother in Maryland, but Nashville has been his second home since birth.

"He has been coming to Nashville so much his whole life. It is his second home because when he's not in school – summer, fall break – he's in Nashville," Eddie said. "All the way back to the days when we had training camp at TSU (in 1998), he's been here. So he knows what a great city Nashville is, and I'm so happy he can go to a great institution like Vanderbilt, where he can be a true student-athlete in every sense of the word."

Jaire wears No. 27 like his father. That jersey number belongs to rising senior safety Jahmel McIntosh at Vanderbilt, but the Commodores have multiple double numbers as long as one plays on offense and the other on defense.

Jaire is the 15th commitment of Vanderbilt's 2015 recruiting class.
