Bobby Bones to join 'American Idol'

Bobby Bones introduces Song of the Year "Body Like a Back Road" by Sam Hunt at the 2017 CMT Artists of the Year show at Schermerhorn Symphony Center Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017 in Nashville, Tenn.

Syndicated country music radio show host Bobby Bones will be part of the new "American Idol" cast.

Bones made the announcement on social media and reportedly announced it on his radio show. The announcement is also posted on the American Idol Facebook page.

On the show, the Nashville-based radio personality will work directly with the top 24 contestants to share his advice on being an artist. Focus points will include stage presence, dealing with media, posting on social media, remaining focused and being authentic and original.

"It's really been hard for me to keep this a secret, but I'm so excited about joining 'American Idol' and working with the Top 24 contestants," Bones told the USA TODAY NETWORK - Tennessee on Wednesday. "The show has really brought together some awesome talent, and I'm pumped to be able to be a part of it."

A Nashville fixture since 2012, Bones is among the most influential on-air personalities in country radio. His "Bobby Bones Show" is heard nationally on more than 100 stations.

"American Idol" originally aired on Fox and ended its 15-season run on the network in 2016. ABC bought the rights to the show last year. Their version premieres March 11, with Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan as the new judges.
