Alabama linebacker Mekhi Brown drew attention to himself during the national championship game when he attempted to attack a Crimson Tide assistant coach.

Former Alabama linebacker Mekhi Brown, the player who attempted to attack a member of the Crimson Tide staff during the national championship game, is the latest of several SEC players who have transferred to Tennessee State.

In fact, Brown became the fifth former SEC player to transfer to TSU over the past two years.

He joined former Florida quarterback Treon Harris, offensive linemen Chidi Okeke from LSU and Christian Morris from Ole Miss, along with tight end Justin Hurston from Georgia.

Harris, a junior, started the first five games of the 2017 season before being benched in favor of Michael Hughes, who started the last six games. Harris played in a total of seven games.

He completed 58 of 106 passes for 729 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 318 yards on 54 carries with three TDs.

Morris started one game at left tackle and two at right tackle.

Okeke started 10 games at left tackle.

Hurston spent the entire season as a backup.

Brown, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound sophomore from Columbus, Ga., apologized for his actions, which were caught on ESPN cameras, during the national championship game against Georgia.

He has two years of eligibility remaining. He will be eligible to play this season since he transferred from an FBS to an FCS program.

He will have the opportunity to get on the field early at TSU since two of the Tigers' three starting linebackers graduated — Justin North (weak side) and Chris Collins (middle).

Collins was the leading tackler (97) and North was third (59), so the linebacker position is one in which the Tigers need immediate help.

Brown was a four-star prospect from Carver High School in the 2015 signing class. He was ESPN and 247Sports' No. 88 overall prospect nationally.

After redshirting last season, Brown saw action in four games this past season. He recorded a total of seven tackles.
