Metro police continue to search for a suspect who they say shot, robbed and carjacked a female Nashville Electric Service worker Monday morning near Cleveland Park.

The shooting took place just before 8 a.m. near the intersection of North 8th Street and Richardson Avenue, police spokeswoman Kris Mumford said.

According to police, 38-year-old NES worker Kelly Webb parked her NES vehicle on Richardson Avenue and was standing outside it when she was approached by a gunman who demanded money.

When Webb told the gunman she did not have any money, police say he fired, striking her twice in the upper leg area.

Webb then handed the gunman her wallet and he stole the NES vehicle, which was later recovered about a mile away in an alley near Lischey Street and North 6th Street.  Items taken from Webb were also recovered near the abandoned vehicle.

NES spokeswoman Laurie Parker said Webb is a meter reader from Nashville and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

As of mid-afternoon Monday, the gunman remained at large.

Police described the suspect as a light-complected black man in his 20s to early 30s with a stocky build. He wore a white shirt and a blue bandana.

As a precaution Monday, Metro school officials locked down the nearby Glenn Elementary and KIPP Academy. The lockdown was lifted about 9:30 a.m.

Schools spokesman Joe Bass said no one was allowed to enter or exit those buildings but classes continued inside both schools.

Anyone with information about the case or the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-862-7496.
