The last time legendary actor Carol Burnett was in Nashville, Dolly Parton brought her a turkey.

In the late 1970s, the two women taped a television special, "Dolly and Carol in Nashville," at the Grand Ole Opry House.

"It was around Thanksgiving, we were staying in a hotel, and Dolly cooked Thanksgiving dinner for us and brought it to the hotel," Burnett remembered. "She said, 'You've got to have some home cooking on Thanksgiving.' It was just so darn sweet of her."

Nearly 40 years after that visit, Burnett will return to Nashville. In March, she is bringing her "Evening of Laughter and Reflection" to the Ryman Auditorium. The first show sold out quickly, so she added another performance, this one on March 15, to her schedule. Tickets ($77 to $177) go on sale Friday at noon.

During the program, Burnett takes questions from the crowd, like she did on her acclaimed, eponymous television show. At 83, she's still as quick and funny as she was on "The Carol Burnett Show."

She says that the spontaneity of these shows keeps her on her toes:

"I don't know what anybody's going to ask, so it's kind of like I'm flying without a net. I have to say, it keeps the old gray matter ticking, because you have to be in the present moment ... it's a lot of fun."

Dolly Parton and Carol Burnett joined forces for the CBS TV special Dolly and Carol in Nashville that aired in February 1979.
