Here's what's going on Nov. 9-11: 

1. 'Candide' at Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt Opera Theatre and Vanderbilt University Orchestra present "Candide: A Comic Operetta in Two Acts" at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The performances take place at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt, 2400 Blakemore Ave. Free.

2. Puppet show

Nashville Public Library's Wishing Chair Productions presents "The Stonecutter" on Friday and Saturday and on Nov. 16 and 17 at the Main Library. Based on a traditional Asian folktale and featuring bunraku puppetry, this 30 minute show/story teaches two life lessons: be happy with who you are and make your wishes carefully. Recommended for ages 6-12 but all ages welcome. Free admission.

3. 'Godspell' at Lipscomb 

Lipscomb University Theatre will perform the rock opera "Godspell" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Collins Auditorium on the Lipscomb campus. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students.

4. Lipscomb Chorus Festival

Lipscomb is also hosting the 44th annual Christian High School Choral Festival featuring Christian choirs from Middle Tennessee and surrounding states on Nov. 12. All of the choirs will combine for the grand choir performance, which is open to the public, at 5 p.m.

5. Veterans Day parade

This year's Nashville Veterans Day parade will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 12, instead of the actual Veterans Day holiday Nov. 11 date because of a conflict with the Tennessee Titans football game. The parade will make its way along Broadway from 14th Avenue to Third Avenue in downtown Nashville with veterans from every branch of the military participating, from World War II to Afghanistan and Iraq.

6. VETFEST

VETLINX, a Nashville-based nonprofit organization that helps veterans, will hold
its third annual free VETFEST from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, at Harlinsdale Farm, 239 Franklin Road, Franklin, with music, games, vendors and food trucks. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

7. Sumner County Museum program

The Sumner County Museum is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with a Veterans Day Parade, patriotic songs, special talks and a 21-gun salute. The event takes place at the museum house at 334 East Main St., Gallatin. Free admission.

8. Conversation with David Remnick

The Nashville Public Library Foundation's 2018 Literary Award honoree David Remnick, the editor of "The New Yorker" and host of "The New Yorker Radio Hour" will take part in a pubic lecture at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lipscomb University's Collins Auditorium. The format will be Remnick in conversation with Callie Khouri, the creator of the "Nashville" TV series. Free parking is available at 1 University Park Drive and in the west parking garage.

9. Free Frist Mondays

The Frist Art Museum is offering free admission on Mondays to guests bringing nonperishable food items for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, through December 31.

Since 2012, Frist visitors have donated more than 23,000 pounds of food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Look for the collection barrels next to the Visitor Services desk. The items most needed by Second Harvest are peanut butter, canned meat, canned vegetables, canned fruit and cereal.
