Nashville businessman and Democratic fundraiser Bill Freeman has been appointed by President Barack Obama to serve on an advisory committee for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Obama, who is entering his final weeks in office, announced the appointment of Freeman and 17 others to administrative posts last week. Freeman will sit on the Kennedy Center’s advisory committee on the arts.

Freeman, chairman of the real estate company Freeman Webb Co. and Tennessee Democrats’ top fundraiser, worked as a campaign fundraising bundler for Obama during both his presidential campaigns and was a prominent fundraiser for Democrat Hillary Clinton’s campaign this past year.

Freeman, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Nashville last year, is currently weighing a Democratic run for governor of Tennessee in 2018.

“I’m thrilled and honored to be appointed by the president,” Freeman said.

The Kennedy Center, which opened in 1971 in Washington D.C., is the nation’s busiest performing arts center, hosting more than 3,000 events each year. The center receives federal funds each year for maintenance and upkeep.
