Titans vs Browns: Myles Garrett the 'No. 1 overall pick for a reason,' Taylor Lewan says

With Marcus Mariota’s mobility limited by a strained hamstring, the Titans allowed just one sack in a victory against the Colts on “Monday Night Football.”

The offensive linemen have a greater challenge against the Browns on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium, when they’ll face rookie defensive end Myles Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

The 6-foot-4, 272-pound Garrett has three sacks in two games since returning from an ankle injury that kept him sidelined for the first four games of the season. He dropped Jets quarterback Josh McCown on his very first play.

“The guy’s a (heck) of a player, let’s be honest,” Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan said. “He’s the No. 1 overall pick for a reason.

"The guy’s got a good first step. He’s a strong guy. He’s fast. He’s got all the accolades, as far as combine measurables. The guy really checks off every box. He’s fast. He’s good with his hands. He’s got great power. He’s shown a good spin move in the past, so he’s got three ways of attacking a tackle. It’s just about going out there and playing football consistently the way I have been all season.”

The Titans have allowed 11 sacks this season, which ranks 12th-fewest in the NFL.

Mariota has been sacked three times in 4 1/2 games this season. Matt Cassel was sacked eight times in 1 1/2 games, including six times in a loss to the Dolphins on Oct. 8, which Mariota missed because of his hamstring injury.

The Browns (0-6) are desperate for their first victory of the season. Three of their losses have been by three points.

The Titans (3-3) are looking for their second consecutive victory and to head into the Week 8 bye in first place in the AFC South. They are tied with the Texans and Jaguars atop the division standings.

Mariota was a full practice participant Wednesday. Running back DeMarco Murray (hamstring), linebacker Derrick Morgan (abdominal strain), wide receiver Corey Davis (hamstring), safety Johnathan Cyprien (hamstring) and linebacker Brian Orakpo (rest) did not practice.

Murray and Morgan are considered “day-to-day,” coach Mike Mularkey said. Davis and Cyprien have been ruled out for their fifth and sixth consecutive games, respectively.
