Could Vanderbilt football upset Georgia again? We don't see it

Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason gets dunked by his players after defeating Georgia 17-16 on Oct. 15, 2016.

Vanderbilt upset Georgia in Athens a year ago for, at the time, Derek Mason's biggest win.

Could it happen again?

Well, the Commodores (3-2, 0-2 SEC) may be slightly better than last season, but time will tell. The Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0) are certainly ahead of last season, as they have climbed to No. 6 in the Amway Coaches Poll and enter this game as a 17.5-point favorite, according to Oddsshark.com.

Here are our picks for the 11 a.m. Georgia-Vanderbilt game on ESPN:

JOHN ADAMS (columnist)

Georgia 27, Vanderbilt 12: The Bulldogs are due for a letdown. They also were due for a letdown against Tennessee. You saw how that played out.

JOE REXRODE (columnist)

Georgia 27, Vanderbilt 10: The worst thing that could happen to the Commodores this week happened last season — their upset win at Georgia guarantees no complacency from the surging Bulldogs. Vandy will do a better job of making this a game than Tennessee did, but Derek Mason's team is beat up and his defense has lost its edge.

DAVE AMMENHEUSER (Sports director)

Georgia 41, Vanderbilt 14: Two weeks ago, there were few questions about the Commodores’ defense. That has changed in a hurry. In most years, a 3-3 record at the midway point would not be a disappointment.

ADAM SPARKS (Vanderbilt beat reporter)

Georgia 35, Vanderbilt 14: It's hard to guess how Vanderbilt will play. Georgia may be a lighter version of Alabama, which steam-rolled the Commodores 59-0. The Bulldogs may also be akin to fellow SEC East front-runner Florida, which beat Vanderbilt 38-24. The pick is that Georgia is somewhere in between the two.
