Former Vanderbilt quarterback and assistant coach David Lee is the new quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns.

Former Vanderbilt quarterback and assistant coach David Lee was hired Wednesday as quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns.

Lee, 63, is in his 42nd year in coaching. He spent the last two seasons as the quarterbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills.

Pep Hamilton, who served as the Browns quarterbacks coach last season, left to join Jim Harbaugh's staff at Michigan.

Lee has spent 12 years coaching in the NFL. Along with the Bills he's spent time as quarterbacks coach with the Jets (2013-14), Dolphins (2008-10) and Cowboys (2003-06).

Lee was a quarterback and team captain at Vanderbilt where he led the Commodores to a 7-3-2 record in 1974 and their second bowl appearance in school history.

The Commodores tied Texas Tech 6-6 in the Peach Bowl.

Lee started his coaching career in 1975 at UT Martin where he coached quarterbacks and wide receivers.

In 1977 Lee returned to Vanderbilt as quarterbacks coach on Fred Pancoast's staff.

David Lee led Vanderbilt to the 1974 Peach Bowl.

Lee also coached on the staffs at Ole Miss (1978-82), New Mexico (1983) and Arkansas (1984-88) before becoming the head coach at Texas-El Paso (1989-93).

He then became an assistant at Rice (1994-2000) and Arkansas (2001-02) before moving to the NFL.
